about

This is an album of mostly single-take recordings of me playing my modular synth, and other devices. My process is that I spend an hour or so, per track, exploring the never-ending caves of modular synthesis, and when I find something interesting, I stop the clock, and start recording. When I restart the clock, I try to play it again for as long as the idea still feels interesting to me. I have some patterns set up, but no overarching pre-programmed song structure. While I very much appreciate The Orb at Tops of the Pops, my days of pre-sequencing every detail of my music are over, and I get a lot more enjoyment out of trying to "play it live". How *good* I am at playing it live, well... that's a work in progress. But, in my *pursuit of progress* to make ever-better *so-called music*, I feel good about this release. It's not all great, but there's something in every one of these tracks that was interesting, which is why they all made the cut into this album. Some of the tracks start off good, then sort of fall apart. Eh, it's more interesting to me than when I programmed every pattern and sequence. It's more instructive to me on my path when things don't go exactly right. And, when they do go right, that's also helpful for me to dig into.
